The Malaysia economy series

Projects built on public Malaysian economic data, from GDP nowcasting to state CPI.

The Malaysia economy series is a set of projects built on one public source: the Ministry of Finance Economic Outlook 2027 report. Each project takes one part of the report and answers one question.

  • GDP nowcasting estimates this quarter’s real GDP growth from the services and industrial production indices, and checks it against the official target band of 4.2% to 5.2%.
  • State CPI dashboard compares the cost of living across all 16 states and Federal Territories.
  • Inflation drivers measures how producer price shocks pass through to retail prices.
  • Labour clustering groups sectors by vacancies and placements to find skills gaps.
  • Trade partner network measures how concentrated trade is, and how much crude oil supply depends on the Strait of Hormuz.
  • SDG tracker tracks indicators across all 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals and flags the ones that slip.
  • Banking stress tracks household debt service and impaired loan ratios across commercial and Islamic banks.

The suite holds all of these modules in one Python codebase. They share one SQLite database and one Streamlit workbench, so you can move between them without a separate setup for each.

Every dataset comes from the published report tables, so you can check each number against the source.
